In the early morning of April 1st, he succumbed to his illness by taking his own life. I, along with many of my family members, am left with a sadness that can never be eased. We are asking ourselves all of the questions that are thought of at a time like this, such as: Could I have done more? What if I had done “X”?
Almost immediately, I started researching depression and other mood disorders that lead a person to do something so out of character. I know that it was the disease, NOT Michael! In my search for answers I found the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org). Their website had a lot of interesting information that led me to an event called the Out of the Darkness Overnight (www.theovernight.org). It is an amazing opportunity to increase awareness among the general population. The 20-mile walk supports the AFSP and all that they do to help prevent suicide from support groups to research and a lot of other stuff in-between.
I am participating in this walk in Chicago June 27-28, and I’m trying to raise a minimum of $1000 for the cause. I believe with your help, I can not only meet that goal but exceed it! If you feel that this is how you are meant to give back, please consider donating whatever is in your heart to give. To donate, visit www.theovernight.org, click on the tab “Support a Participant” and either type in my first and last name, Melissa Morphew, or ID 10013978. Then click on my name and follow the online instructions.
Please know that every 16 minutes someone in the U.S. dies by suicide. It is amongst the top five most common causes of death in the 10-44 age group. I now know how much this can affect a person left behind and would not wish this on anyone. Let’s bring awareness and research to everyone so they know they are NOT alone!
Thank you and God bless you all!
Melissa Morphew
Volunteer Participant
(248) 396-3914
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
ID 10013978

Happy Anniversary!!!

I was a busy girl today!!! Cabe & I celebrated our 7th anniversary (8th if counting the "boat wedding") on Monday September 15th. We had a wonderful dinner at Andiamo in Rochester, and an awesome tuxedo cake to end our evening! As a gift to Cabe for being the amazing husband & father that he is, I had scheduled to have the windows tinted on his 2001 BMW 540i. He has been wanting to get the windows tinted for a while but has been lacking the time to do it. Just this past weekend we switched cars to save miles on my 2008 Chrysler Town & Country, I think I got the better end of that deal by the way, which gave me an opportunity to do it for him. After much research on the best place to go I found Sun-Shade Window Tinting In Troy, I called & was impressed by the fast response, reasonable quote & their ability to get me in quickly as well! When I showed up today they told me about the different types and shades of window tinting available and after choosing what I wanted they were off. Both Tim (the owner) and Kevin (a long time employee) tinted the windows, they did an exceptional job and I would absolutely recommend them. No wonder they have been in business for 22+ years!!!

To finish it off I put a new license plate cover on and got rid of the dealership one that we have had on since we got it. The next step is to put an upgraded exhaust on it and a custom plate that says "mine now"!!! :)

So, without further delay, here is the final result. I hope you like it Cabe!!!

It's a girl!

We have a new addition to our family, actually eight new additions to our family! I for one would love to see the foreign car company's, that are doing so well, have their workers form a union similar to ours and watch them go down hill at the same time. I think that's what it would take to show some concrete evidence to the UAW. They say that they're big quam is the "Job Security" what exactly is that for them though? Is that just for now, or would they like to make some scrifices now so that they have jobs at all or so that the future generations will have jobs too! Sometimes you have to make some cuts for the greater good. As of now when you get an entry level job working for GM with the UAW you START OFF making $22.00 and hourplus benefits that they don't have to pay into. GM is asking them to take that down and I don't think that unreasonable. I know that when I started of in the workforce I didn't start off with that. I think you have to work up to that. The starting pay for most companies is minimum wage which is I think about $14.00 less then that. CRAZY! Okay so I'm ranting now but I have to go, I am not done though and will be posting with more factual information later.

The 80's!

One week ago Cabe and I attended a party at a friends house, kudos to them for such a great idea! It was to be an 80's themed party, with prizes for the best dressed, 80's games, food, drink and a great group of people. We were invited and immediately we were thinking of outfits, was I going with Madonna, punk, sixteen candles or Demi Moore in St. Elmo's fire. Was Cabe going for Don Johnson on Miami Vice or... well... Don Johnson on Miami Vice, so I guess his was known from the begining! I borrowed a pair of awesome hot pink leg warmers, and bought a cute black dress and belt that I had my eye on for something else and then went crazy at an annoyingly cheap costume jewelry store with pink earings (that almost touched my shoulders), pink bracelets, and necklaces. The night finally came and my outfit was perfect, all I had to worry about was my turquoise and pink eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick and blush. Then came the hair, since I couldn't curl or crimp my hair I just fliped my head to the side and sprayed hairspray until it stopped moving! We got there and Chris and Kristin had certainly hit the 80's nail on the head, everyone else looked great too, the person that won first place had shaved his head in true mohawk style, and I ended up with second place!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_G55uADDMWKk/RfsOkjaET8I/AAAAAAAAAAM/NWAe9H2B8Jo/s320/DSCN3150.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5042640228914057154" />
It was loads of fun, other then the unfortunate quarter bounce drinking game, all I have to say is, don't play that when your drinking wine! ;-)

How Time Flies!

I am in my kitchen cleaning while listening to a CD titled "The Newton-Morphew Wedding", which has, by the way, great music on it. It got me thinking though, when Josh and Salena got married, Cabe and I had just celebrated the birth of our first son and then our 2nd/3rd wedding anniversary :-), my best friend had just celebrated her first wedding anniversary and another good friend from elementary school was just starting her last year of med school. Since then we have 2 kids, 2.5 and 3.5, Heather just had her daughter's second birthday party last night and is pregnant with number 2, another girl. Her and Dave will be celebrating 5 years this summer. My friend Ginger is almost done with her first year of residency at a great hospital, Royal Oak Beaumont and is happily married. Also, my sister and her husband gave birth to the first girl in the family since me and she just turned two! I just can't believe that it's been long enough for all of that to happen! Can you believe that Cabe and I have known each other for almost ten years and have been married for almost 6/7 years. Just in case somebody who is reading this doesn't know, Cabe and I were married twice, September 15th of 2000 and 2001. Anyway, I am just amazed, you hear all of these horror stories of people getting married and thinking their lives are over after just a couple of years but, I couldn't ask for anything better. I have loved it all, the ups and downs, the friends and family, everything!
Thanks Josh and Salena for the trip down memory lane. :-)

The New TV

Alright, so it has been a little crazy since I last told you about my television and I apologize for not letting you know what we got. First I got some advice from Mark on which name brands were the best (or worst) to buy. Then, we went to Costco because we thought that they would have the most TV for you bucks, however unless you were looking to spend about $2000-2500 or more, they didn't have much. So, Off to Circuit City, now that was a selection! After about 40 minutes of chasing the kids around a store full of high priced merchandise and talking with a somewhat knowledgeable sales person we made a decision! We got the 42" Sony Grand WEGA™ 3LCD Rear Projection, and we got it on sale which made it even more fabulous! But then yet another problem, we realized that the tv stand at home was barely suitable for our 30" tube so our savings in the TV department came in handy! I got home and scoured the internet for a snazy stand, I was running short on time because the stores all closed in one hour but I found one. We called and purchase the Elements Large Media Cart over the phone and picked it up witout even having to go in, now that's what I call service! Needless to say we are really enjoying our new TV and they boys think that Dora and her cousin Diego are awesome in HD!

Damn TV

So this morning has been interesting, I was watching the news upstairs and on a commercial brake decided to make a mad dash for it and run down to turn the TV downstairs on before the segment I was waiting for came on. So there I am in front of the TV pushing the on button harder and harder with every try and wondering what this TV has against me that it doesn't want me to see this falls newest hairstyles. I mean come on, I am desperate here I have a hair appointment on Saturday, I need to know! So then it comes to me, the TV is FINALLY after something crazy like 12 years had it's final moments as a working television. So now the dilemma, do I try to gather up the kids and run like a mad women back upstairs to see this very important segment, why yes I think I will. So I grab one in each arm (which by the way the kids thought was very funny) and dashed upstairs just in time to hear them say, and those are the must have looks in hair for fall, and now a commercial brake. So not only do I not have a working TV but I also have no idea what the heck to do with my hair. I guess I know what Cabe and I will be doing after work tonight, finding a new television. Wish us luck!

Arctic Ring of Life

We are usually at the zoo about once every couple of weeks, and although I like the zoo as a whole I have never been all that impressed with the "Arctic Ring of Life". Every time that I have been there with the kids the polar bears are sleeping or basically inactive for whatever reason. A couple weeks ago when I was there I was with a friend, her little ones love it so I of course had to drag my feet, and the kids along the long and boring path. We got into the tunnel that is under water and glass on three sides and right in the middle was a very large and very cool polar bear, just kind of hanging out. So without further ado... here are the pics

My first post!!!!
